The interview for fire training ( Changing directions part two.)
Danny was nervous, no.. he was almost shitting himself. This was the most important interview of his life. They had told him to dress casual. Not a suit. Danny did as he was told and headed to the fire station. Once inside things seemed different. Like he belonged there. The quietness of the station seemed to calm his ever active mind. He waited in the hall with the rest of the others. There was about twelve men and Danny knew there was only two places. He eyed up the other guys with suspicion. all had their cv’s and their perfect lives. He had nothing, but he had just as much right to be there as they did. He was street smart and brave. One by one they were called in till he heard his name. Danny walked in and sat down. Now the real fun began.
The man who interviewed him seemed more like a policeman interrogating him than asking him questions, but Danny took it all his stride, every question answered and every test passed with flying colours. The day was gruelling mentally and he had not even got to the physical stuff yet. He kept his cool and done all that was asked of him. When the day ended, Danny was the last one to leave. He walked outside safe in the knowledge he had done his best and all he had to do now was wait. He got back to the probation facility and was grateful that it was quiet. He made himself some ramen noodles and put his feet up to eat them when the phone rang. With a tired sigh he pick up the phone. “ Daniel Anderson?” The voice asked. “ Yeah.” He replied. “ Congratulations you have made it through the interview stage. From Wednesday 15th to Wednesday you will be placed in the fire training. If you succeed that week, then you will be a trainee firefighter on a three month trial. If you succeed that, you will become a firefighter full time.” Danny hung up and sat back down to eat the noodles. He would celebrate tomorrow. Tonight he just wanted to eat and sleep.
