I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone talk about Eraldo Coil and Danuve. We know they were the second and third greatest detectives after L, who usurped their names and positions. Has no one considered the implications of what that means? What could L have possibly done to make Coil and Danuve forfeit their entire identity and livelihoods to him? Were they coerced under duress? Did he have them killed? We know he’s not above bending and breaking the law if it suits his prerogative. I find it difficult to believe they willingly conceded to him, even if he defeated them in the war between them that Mello mentions in the labb murder cases. Did he simply pay them to use their identities for himself? There’s so many questions left unanswered.
