Got any headcanons on the dwarves and their children?
A few, but my favorite one comes FIRST AND FOREMOST: trans Doug Dwarf IS REAL IN MY HEART OKAY
Her name is DAPHNE because that's a better riff on Dopey's name anyway!
I headcanon dwarfs as being a fantasy race separate from humans with an affinity to the underground who happen to commonly have dwarfism genes, which is what the seven have (and Daphne, because Devie should've always had Evie be the tall gf and I will die on that hill), but one doesn't necessarily need to be short to be a dwarf! Planty of tall guys like her brother Derek are still dwarfs despite their heights, they just didn't get the dwarfism gene lol
I'm not the biggest fan of canon!Doug's personality if we're being honest, a lot of the character choices reek of desperation and come off more annoying than endearing in my opinion. I just feel that the message of 'finally being seen for more than just my looks!' is kinda lost there when... The only reason Doug was ever on Evie's side is cuz she was pretty and he had a crush on her 💀. Still, the potential of Devie is extremely cute to me and I feel like it doesn't take much work to make them work!

I would say that after their first meeting all Devie really needed was a moment where Daph actually SEES EVIDENCE of Evie being smart instead of just jumping to her defense bc she's pretty. My thought process was something along the lines of Evie accidentally showing her up constantly (bc she's cheating with the magic mirror) and Daphne being both baffled and slightly angry that she's being knocked out of the top student spot by someone who ISNT EVEN PAYING ATTENTION (cuz Evie is ofc too busy making googoo eyes at Chad to even pretend like she's actually working hard for her grades) but then the two of them end up getting paired up for a hands on chemistry assignment and Evie is able to figure everything out without even thinking of consulting the mirror due to her experience with making her own makeup using whatever she had available to her on the isle.
And boom! Daphne now knows Evie is authentically smart and just needs a chance! It makes the whole 'being acknowledged' message just work so much better!
I also feel that Evies whole entire relationship with being so obsessed with princes reads as very... Comphet-ty to me. Of course she APPEARS attracted to Chad but when they finally get a moment alone the FIRST things she asks about is how big his CASTLE is!!! 😭 Like Lord. Whoever wrote Evie and actually thought that was straight behavior has to do some PERSONAL soul searching LMFAO
Anyway, obviously most of what I wrote here is just total rewrite so... Oopsie daisy. But I subscribe to the trans HC anyway! I think that a lot of her awkwardness in dialogue and character choices could end up being excused with her just being really insecure in who she is as a person while she's figuring all these things out about herself. Plus the hair in the third movie... I mean, need I say more? Classic t girl cut ✋🤚 no one shoot please.
Anyways enough of this agenda. Here's some more HCS!
- everyone in the dwarf family knows at least a little sign language! Dopey is mute (in some sources selectively but in others completely) so I like to imagine that he knows sign language and his brothers learnt it with him in solidarity! Since it's used so commonly around the house Derek and Daph are fluent in it too and their cousins know a couple words here in there. I also think Daph would've taught Evie just a bit of sign language so they could talk (sign?) shit about Chad directly in front of his face LMFAO
- Snow White is the godmother of ALL the dwarf cousins which is why she has no descendants of her own in the franchise. Shes too busy spoiling her godkids!!
- Evie always has this line about canon!Doug not being a 'real prince' but instead the 'prince of her heart' - but the thing is, the dwarf cousins have actually grown up with very refined educations that they basically ARE royalty in all but blood! Snow White made sure that none of them ever wanted for anything and they each have their own rooms in her castle. She personally funded every single one of their hobbies which is why so many of them seem to excel in the things they're pursuing
- most of them have poor eyesight but that's just a general trait of dwarfs as a species. Their eyes are pretty sensitive to sunlight but they can see exceedingly well in the dark or underground!
- even though the dwarfs were EXTREMELY touchy about Snow's whole... Stranger danger don't let anyone in the house etc etc rule, Daph was one of the only students we saw be open to the VKs coming over- and I'd like to believe it's a general trait that most of her cousins shared! Snow isn't a girl that likes to dwell on the horrible things that happen to her, she chooses to place EXTRA importance on how the dwarfs welcomed her into their home despite not knowing her and how their KINDNESS towards a STRANGER is the reason she is who she is today! So, even though the seven like to keep to themselves and are usually highly aware of the dangers strangers pose, almost all of the cousins are EXTREMELY sociable individuals
- a lot of the 'Name Jr.' dwarf guys don't actually share the traits their fathers are named after to the point that most of them are oxymorons. Their friends usually nickname them after traits that ACTUALLY suit them
- at least one of them has an EXTREMELY guilty pleasure of really liking apples that they have to hide from the rest of the family... Not sure who tho
