Shifting his backpack, he looked down at his hapless boyfriend, raising an eyebrow at the others who left the class. Looking over at the equally distraught teacher, looking a bit frustrated at the end of class. He nods when the tired-looking professor makes eye contact with him, waving to a few others he knew from his own general education classes.

Reaching Ai’s row of seats, he shakes his head.

“Which one of you two gave him more wrinkles this time?” Helping to pick up Ai’s belongings so they could go to lunch, he only manages to tidy a few things before pulling his hands back. Was it too forward? He wasn’t sure.

“He’s not that much older than Aki and Crow. But he looks like he’s aging every time I pick you up.”

Curiousity had never expected to find herself in the role of a Test Subject. That was a human thing, after all. What information could robots potentially give when they were programmed to act in specific ways every time?

However, one of the tasks had called her name. Bellatrix’s Task, near the bottom of the selections. It was an excuse to finally use her Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device. No humans here had one, who else was supposed to prove Aperture’s superior technology? It would be just like back at the facility, use the ASHPD to get from point A to B to C. Simple, easy.

Or so she had thought. While the clone seemed unwilling to attack a child, they found other ways to stop her. Obstacles piled in her way, broken bridges, and now literally just standing in her way. There didn’t seem to be any surfaces conductive to her portalling through, leaving her stuck with only Fibonacci’s safe zone checkpoint left before she could return to Golden.

How was she supposed to fix this? Doubling back would take too long, right? Curiousity glanced back trying to figure out how much time that would take, only to spot another pair coming along the same narrow path. A pair she was growing increasingly familiar with.

“Are you guys trying to get to the safe zone, too? Can you help?”

Well, this is interesting.

He’s on another info-gathering expedition, into downtown Fibonacci this time. When even internet cafes staunchly refuse to let one online, one has to get one’s data on what the hell is up with this place somewhere. Hence these long walks and subway rides, taking notes on his phone about anything and everything, free maps from public kiosks, and many photos of places he’d like to visit again later.

Including this place. It’s a small but flamboyantly lit storefront, advertising itself as A.I.Land, an...amusement park? In this tiny section of building? How is that possible? And what is the “Intraspace,” anyway? They’re all questions he’d very much like to know the answers to. Because also front and center on the colorful advertising posters are Duel Monsters. The first he’s seen them even mentioned by anyone else here.

Kaito pushes through the storefront door. Anybody home?

But they other seemed fairly sure... The branch was held up and inspected, with the empath immediately looking for something to put it in... for now, just some damp paper towels. That done, they turned back to Ai a bit apologetically.

“Sorry, I didn’t want it to wilt. It’s beautiful... I can’t wait to plant it in the springtime. Maybe I’ll like, put on a little hammock for you so you can enjoy it too.”

“Ah, well... Y’know. You are a person. So I just did what I thought was normal. You were one of the few people I’ve met here that’ve been friendly from the get-go, too. I appreciated it just as much.”

Though they actually seemed a bit paler than usual, Anda’s expression was bright and beaming.

“Well, you’re totally welcome here anytime. It’s a scary place out there sometimes. It’s nice to have somewhere to go when things get rough.”
