THE DEEPER MEANING: Darlin’ I’d Die for the Sunrays
While Onyx in Darlin' is represented by white, the glasses and roses/the white backgrounds on the macaroons and smoothies Veronica is represented by the red of the foods and in general. Red is a hard color to see through, which translates to Veronica’s inability to process her emotions or let other people see how she’s feeling, especially in regards to her friendship with Onyx. Onyx on the other hand has white, which is very transparent and she is in turn very open with her emotions and how she loves Alyssa. When they’re paired up they’re represented by the pink of both of the hand photos and the middle image which is more pink than red. Its more red than white however because this is Veronica knowing she feels this way, she wants to spend the rest of her sunsets with Onyx, but she can’t say it out loud easily. Onyx however, would say it with ease and the ease cancels out some, but not all, of Veronica’s red. The picnic and kitchen images are because the outdoors the pumpkin patch, the walks through campus, the picnic yet to come are where Veronica feels like she can breathe. It’s her place to shine and where when she and Onyx are alone, she can say how she feels. Likewise, the kitchen is where Onyx is comfortable. It’s safe. It reminds her of Betsy, allows her to bake which is a comforting thing she holds close to her and reminds her of Betsy again because who do you think taught her to bake?
