Scribs, my love. I’m here to do your ask game 🙋🏽♀️
Can I ask 4, 5 and 7? 😏
SWEETHEART 💗
4. favourite dish specific for your country?
omg. thank you for this question. my gluttonous ass is sooooo happy! 😆 i am a SLUT for chocobud (chocolate budbud, pronounced bood-bood). it's sweet glutinous rice stuffed with dark chocolate and cooked in banana leaf. when done well, the chocolate comes out in a fountain of yumminess that overflows and puddles in your plate. 🤤 our neighbouring island does it soooooo good. it's so rich you have to share each piece lest you go into a chocolate coma. looks like this (grabbed from fb):
5. favourite song in your native language?
i am ashamed to say i do not listen to local songs. people here are pretty fond of super sappy, sentimental love songs which are just not. my. type. 😅 sorryyyyy
7. three words from your native language that you like the most?
see the thing is, i'm not even sure what my native language is. 😂 we have a national language but we don't speak it often because where i live, we have our own dialect (of which we are fiercely proud). and then because i come from an immigrant family (many generations), i'm ethnically different and we have our own ethnic dialect, too! 😂😵💫
anyway, for purposes of this ask, i'll pick words from my country's national language and my island's dialect.
(1) dagway - means "face"; it's a deeper synonym of "naong", which is another (more common) word for face. and i like it because there's a crudely funny ring to it that always makes me laugh when i hear it.
(2) hukuman - means "court". most people use the english-based word "korte" these days, so i'm always a bit thrown when i see this word used (if not in news reports, then in legal documents like certificates or embassy translations). the word is just so naturally ours, if you know what i mean, and so romantic that it makes me think back to the old days when people spoke our native language so beautifully.
(3) palangga/pinangga - means "beloved". i love it because it's what i call my doggy, and it's capable of cute diminutives like "langga" and "langging" (all of which i also call him! 😆). just an affectionate word, overall!
Thank you for the ask, love! This was soooo much fun! 💗 pls do rb so i can send you one back!
