Two Knight Foundation Submissions Pending
As a social justice scholar/activists and data scientist, the recent Knight Foundation focus on how data can help individuals and communities seemed ripe with opportunities.
A quick collaboration meeting two weeks ago with my fellow Data & Society Fellows also revealed some similar interests among people interested in looking at how data can help remedy the persistent issues of inequality in our communities.
With that in mind, I present to you our two submissions to the Knight Foundation Data challenge. It was a fun exercise to put the proposal together and we look forward to working on our projects in the months to come (hopefully with funding :)
OpenCourts Direct - Interactive database/app making criminal and civil court data accessible so the public can learn more about how courts shape inequality in their communities.
Could your data discriminate? - Online tool/learning platform where reporters & the public can upload data and find out (1) if it’s discriminatory and (2) how to fix it.
