Riku turned his attention to Kairi, seeing her tired form. He had been staying with her for quite some time now, but still these things were foreign to him, such as sleep. The body needed to recharge, yes, but the concept of being unable to do so when required eluded him. Nonetheless, he was willing to help in any way he can.

“Of course.” He nodded. “How can I help?”

In front of a stranger or no, Riku was not the kind to just fall on his knees and yell. He just wasn’t, he had to put up a strong front for everyone’s sakes.

But now…

“I should’ve done something, I just left them alone…” The journal muttered over and over, gripping his head in front of the girl.

There was an unspoken golden rule that was always followed without further argument: “Don’t question what you can’t explain.” But today, Riku might just have to break that rule.

Today, nothing made sense and it worried him. For one, he and Sora were no longer in the Datascape. Two, he couldn’t access any information from said Datascape. It was as if they removed all his rights as the journal, the moderator. Third, and something he couldn’t believe or explain at all...

He had a heartbeat.

It wasn’t like the metaphorical heart that had light and darkness within it; he could feel an actual heart, the organ pumping in time with his breathing.

“Just what is going on...?” he mumbled, so many questions pouring in, but none he could provide an answer for.

From within the Datascape, Riku paced back and forth, a soft buzz on the electronic floor with each step he took. The king and the others had told them about a visitor coming to see the castle, and, being the journal that he was, he couldn’t help but worry. What if this ‘visitor’ was going to be an enemy later? There was an endless number of possibilities this visit could go wrong, and here was calculating all of them.

“Riku, you’re overthinking this!” Sora said from his spot on a random block. “It’s not like every person’s gonna be a bad guy!”

“But what if they are?” Riku retorted, turning to look at his friend. “I have never heard of this visitor they described before, and--”

“And the King and the others trust them! So it’s only fair we trust them too.”
