It appears that Terry Funk is truly assaulting jobber Davey Rich. The best pro wrestling is rooted in the fantasy of possible danger and destruction, as if the wrestlers are legit being physically harmed -- tortured actually -- while in the ring. Our excitement in watching it requires it to feel dangerous and scary.

Thanks to Davey's dramatic selling, this match does a good job tapping into my youthful fantasy that his punishment could be real. (Also, it doesn't hurt that he looks damn hot in his yellow trunks and boots!)

Funk's variation of the Pile-Driver involves falling backward rather than dropping on his knees. This version seems more devastating, as in less secure for the victim. And that is what makes it more exciting to watch -- like, Oh wow, did he just break my dude's neck?!

My tribute to Paul Roma continues with this edited video depicting the stud's utter dominance over hunky jobber, Davey Rich. Sure, Romeo Roma is pure eye candy, but there is also something very sexy about his hairy-chested jobber too! That chunky dad bod and those bulging little trunks on Davy Rich, are you serious?! I'm in love.

We get to see Roma's trademark Over-the-Knee Backbreaker Series in the video, where he demonstrates his power by repeatedly hoisting up his opponent and dropping the poor dude's spine across his knee to bust his back. So brutal and merciless! That one always turns me on, and I don't think I'm the only one because I've heard other wrestling lovers mention his OTK gimmick as a favorite.

Sika from the Wild Samoans and the Great Kokina team up to take on the tag team tandem of Davey and Johnny Rich for the Continental Wrestling Federation in 1988! The Great Kokina eventually moved on to bigger and better things when he arrived in the WWF as Yokozuna!
