Listening to a great album by my good friend David Curtin today, otherwise known as Sunchild. Really digging his tunes onThese Mountains. Check him out, he's a fantastic song writer.
Outlaw's Lullaby - John Bustine - And oddly enough, the night I played this tribute set of John Bustine tunes he was right around the corner at DC9 playing a set as well and he and his wife popped by afterwords while I was still playing my set, which was of course, WAY COOL of them to do and I was thrilled as I heard him singing along at one point during this song to let me know he had arrived, hehehe. Not to mention his HILARIOUS email blast about his show at DC9 and my playing a tribute set at Solly's the same night (Sunchild was David Curtin's - David of the Wolves - previous music project and was cobilling the show at Solly's with me, as was my other good friend Derek Evry). Here's the text from John Bustine's email announcement about the shows:
"The first one's chin was too large and also its head had what looked like a lamp growing out of it but the father remained hopeful. If you want to make an omlette, he said, you have to bust some skulls. When the first one stopped breathing three nights later the father dragged it out back and decided to light it on fire behind the shed. While siphoning gasoline from his truck the father was distracted by the stars that covered the night's moonless sky. He sat in the driveway on the gravel for what may have been hours. When he wandered back to the shed he found the first one in front of it, standing and breathing and staring at the sky. -I bet you're hungry as hell, the father said. -Yes, said the first one. I want an omlette. This monday i will be playing at DC9 with the white buffalo. Or maybe i will be playing at solly's around the corner with sunchild. Or maybe, in defiance of the laws of both nature and man, i will be both places at once, father and first one together and apart, oblivious to the flames which devour the meatball sandwich of reason left overnight in the toaster oven of indifference. There's only one way to find out. Actually there are three ways. At least. either way, anyway, i remain yours in spirit, john bustine"
Miss Amputee West Culver County by John Bustine - my good friend, David Curtin, hopped up on stage to sing this cover with me as I did a John Bustine tribute set at Solly's in DC back on November 9th, 2009. David came out to our show last night but alas missed our set as he had thought we were starting at 9:00 p.m. but my email blast and websites of course all say 7:30 p.m., drat!! Oh well, there's always next time. Check out David's new old project, which I posted video of earlier, David of the Wolves, pretty radical stuff.
