The prosecution of individual voters for fraud is a trend that seems intended to intimidate.
Case the First
In 2016, a white woman in North Carolina pretended to be her own dead mother so she could cast a second vote in favor of Donald Trump.
Outcome: The District Attorney declined to prosecute the woman.
Case the Second
In 2012, a first-time African-American voter in Georgia asked another African-American woman--a city councilwoman and community leader--for assistance. The woman told the first-time voter where the card went in the machine, told her to go through and make her own selections, and walked away before the first-time voter started voting.
Outcome: About four years later, the District Attorney arrested the woman and charged her with multiple counts of felony voter fraud, including a charge for “improper assistance in casting a ballot” because the first-time voter had not been “illiterate or disabled.”
Can you spot the crucial differences between these two cases of voter fraud?
WATCHING
I wasn't sure if I would like this as much as the 2005 film, but it's more drawn out, not as sped up.
It's special effects are low budget 1981 style, very much like the 70-80s Doctor Who style SFX. It's got a whole different charm than the movie. I don't think I could choose after only seeing one episode, but I think the series and the movie both have their positives.
And Douglas Adams is so fun and clever and funny that it's pretty prefect in any form.
