My “you can survive the last of finals week” gift to myself arrived today, and it’s one of my obscure holy grail hauls. 1987’s Dark Age is a lost Ozploitation-should-have-been-cult-classic that due to distribution and production woes unrelated to the film itself or anyone involved, never got a proper theatrical release in its native Australia and dumped to VHS in North America, where it’s long out of print. With Aussie faves like John Jarrett (Wolf Creek, Rogue), Mad Phipps (Mad Max) and iconic Indigenous Australian actors Burnham Burnam (Ground Zero) and David Gulpilil (Walkabout, Rabbit Proof Fence, Until the End of the World - literally most Australian films you’ve seen) it’s the rare horror film that delivers on its nature vs man promise with a truly giant crocodile but also a thoughtful examination of respecting indigenous thought and wild life conservation. #darkage #ozploitation #davidgulpilil #indigenousaustralia #crocodile #horror #80s #cultclassic (at Waikiki) https://www.instagram.com/p/CO1HDhghi0c/?igshid=1odv2mkrwn3ue
