You stand in front of the mirror longer than you need to, smoothing your hands down fabric that doesn’t need smoothing, tweaking a hem that already looks perfect, because it distracts you from the endless thought that he should be going with you.

You tilt your head and look at your reflection, pressing your lips together. Do I look okay? The question echoes in your mind unanswered, since the one person you want to ask it isn’t here—until he is.

At first, you don’t hear him come up to you. A moment later, you look in the mirror, and there is Levi, leaning on the doorframe, his eyes following your every movement as you turn around and twist to see yourself from different angles. You catch his gaze in the mirror. Even after all this time, that adoring look of his makes your knees weak. 

You turn toward him with a soft smile. He pushes off the frame and comes over in a few steps. His fingers reach out almost hesitantly before they find the collar of your shirt, which he adjusts very gently. His touch lingers to trace the edge of the fabric down your collarbone while his other hand smooths a nonexistent wrinkle along your hip.

“I’ll be back before you know it,” you say, like that does anything to ease his separation anxiety. 

Levi hums, low in his throat, not entirely convinced, and then his hand lifts to adjust your collar again. “Hold still,” he murmurs, even though you already are.

When he’s done, his hand lingers a second longer than necessary, resting lightly against you before dropping back to his side. You think again for a moment—he should be coming with you. But you can’t take him. It’s just one of those times where you can’t do everything as a couple.

“You look good,” he says, his eyes holding yours. 

You give him a tiny smile. “Yeah?”

Levi’s gaze wanders for the briefest moment, then it comes right back to you. “Yeah.” He rolls his lips into a slight smile. “Shame I won’t be there to see it.”

You lean into him, grabbing onto the soft cotton of his shirt, breathing in the clean scent of his soap and the subtle undertone of home that clings to him alone. As his lips press a gentle kiss to your forehead, you whisper against his chest that you’ll be thinking of him all night.

Because how could you not, when every part of you feels connected to him?

Alright, first post on this magnificent hellscape of a site, and it is day 1 of Ectober 2024. I’m gonna be real with you I didn’t understand the past/future prompt system so for today we just have a vague concept involving Clockwork that I drafted at 10 pm in my concept dev class (I was not paying attention to the lecture)

There’s a lot I want to fix with this but this month I’m here to mass produce and they’re not all gonna be bangers

November update: they were not all bangers because they do not exist, I did exactly one day or ectober

Grace sighed and stared at the rows upon rows of taumoeba farms before him. There, in their specialised xenonite cages inside their neat little cubicles, were the salvation of two dying worlds.

What do we do now? Grace bounced the question around in his head.

The answer was simple.

And so with an easy shrug and a barely there smile, Grace said to his strange alien turned annoying co-worker turned roommate and best friend:

"We party."
