Sunday 7
Surgery Tuesday on my throat. Yikes! Somewhat freaked out about this. Send good thoughts please.
Still working on a billboard geared at getting folks to attend a job fair in Chicago. Hasn’t been going so smoothly.
Chicks are hatching today. I had about 18 eggs divided between two hens and one abandoned the nest this morning. Two of her eggs had already hatched, though one wasn’t a clean hatch. I moved both the chicks and the remaining eggs under the other hen and have my fingers crossed. I’m currently resisting the temptation to mess with the mama hen to check on their progress.
I strained my left wrist moving 50# bags of feed a couple of weeks ago and haven’t had enough down time for it to heal properly so it still hurts when I do anything that requires lateral movement. And I’m left-handed.
Had dinner last night with a friend battling cancer. I thought it would be a quick evening, and was okay with that as a neighbor invited me to a screening the Big Lebowsky in her backyard (we were invited to wear robes and drink White Russians). However, my friend, who is still undergoing radiation, is feeling great, has lost 25 pounds and is looking healthier than ever. Go figure! It was as ever, great to visit him and to catch up.
I had some older chicks mysteriously die this week and all too late discovered a shit-ton of mites hiding in their pens. Yick! So, I bathed them all (21 birds including a rooster and 3 pea chicks) in the bathroom sink and while they were drying, I scrubbed down the pens with industrial cleaner and lots of water. They are all clean and fluffy now and seem much happier. Haven't seen a mite since but will be vigilant.
Procrastinating from working on my taxes. Need to turn over the numbers to my accountant in the AM so I probably ought to get back to it. Ugh!
