Production Challenge #5
dcSux set the fifth challenge for the crew - a truly challenging one:
So I have been listening to quite a lot of Steve Reich recently, and I thought it would be quite cool for the next production task to do something involving phase shifting.
A simple example of this would be his 1972 piece "Clapping Music"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzkOFJMI5i8
This is two people clapping a simple pattern consisting of 1 bar of a 6/4 rhythm. One clapper shifts the phase (ie. the start point of the pattern) by half a beat every 8 bars. This creates a whole rhythmic piece from a single pattern. It can get more complicated than this.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phase_music So the rules for the task are: Construct a tune, of any style. It must contain at least a pair of tracks with a rhythmic pattern that shifts in and out of phase during the piece. They can have different melodic/timbral elements, but they must share a common rhythm.
I work a bit slower than some of you, so, as it is my task, I'm going to say, spend no more than 5 hours on the track.
