Okay, here's a brief, general description of the plot.
The story takes place in a dystopian future, where your flaws and health are important to your survival. In this future, most people have migrated to live within walled cities, which were created by people who desired to stop harming others and to hopefully end the raging wars that were ravaging the land. The main city within the story is Ágnes, an extremely large and popular city created by a Hungarian woman named Ágnes Zsoldos. She was the first ruler of the city and the greatest of them all, but the quality and fairness of the rulers slowly decreased until they all became corrupted and cruel.
There are little hints to the location of the story. It’s unknown.
In this world, perfection is valued above all else. The poor are looked down even more upon than in the past, and the slums are disgusting and massive. There are overpopulation problems, which might be one cause of Rejection, a process created by leaders in the past.
Rejection is simple - it is the process of kicking out unworthy ones. And by unworthy ones, I mean disabled citizens.
A single flaw could cost you your life.
Even things that are seen as “small” and “uncommon” are fatal, and if discovered by the city officials - the government - you will immediately be sent to the Rejection center and undergo Rejection, becoming an Outcast in the process. Outcasts are those kicked out of society and banished from cities, forced to slowly and painfully die on their own. Those who help hide people doomed to Rejection are labeled as traitors and executed (sometimes publicly).
However, there are exceptions to these rules (naturally). If the current ruler of the city were to fall sick, like getting lung cancer, they would be excluded from the strict rule. Any influential, wealthy individuals are also excused, as they are important to the government and thus cannot be thrown away. The rest of society, however, is free game. Their own people are seen as garbage, as worthless pawns in their game, and they have no problems throwing them away and leaving them to die.
The story revolves around a survival group of multiple individuals who were Rejected from society - some by their own will, most due to their sicknesses and/or disabilities.
