Please Help
Hi. My name is Theo, and I live in the Baltimore/DC area. A few weeks ago, I was looking at an online AARF adoption page, a 100% volunteer run non-profit organization, and I found this beautiful boy, Penn.
He’s about 4 years old, and I fell in love with him immediately. I went through the process of adopting him, and I have been green-lit to become his forever home. However, there have been a few problems.
I’ll only give an abridged version of the most recent events, but if you want to read his full story (or donate!) here’s the link: https://animalalliesrescue.org/donate/
Penn was taken in by AARF in early August, 2020. His foster thought he had an ear infection, but medication wasn’t helping him. One day while petting him, she noticed a lump on his shoulder, which she thought to be a swollen lymph node from the ear infection, so she took him to the vet. What they found were 5 lead bullets. One in his chest, one in his shoulder, one in his neck, one piercing his middle ear (this was the false ear infection), and one in his head. The vet said that any one of them could have, even should have, killed him.
And yet, despite being treated badly by so many humans, despite most likely being in major discomfort, he’s the sweetest kitty. When I met him, he was bouncing between me, my mom, and his foster for pets and scritches. He was absolutely lovely. Even his foster said that he’s “one of the most loving cats she's ever had in her home.”
He will have to have surgeries to remove the bullets. The one in his ear specifically “requires a specialized procedure called a bulla osteotomy, which both increases the delicacy and the cost.” (from the donation page) His surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, 2020, but the donations will stay open until the goal is met (i’m pretty sure, I haven’t seen anything for a close date anywhere). The total cost of surgery for him will be $2500. This is a lot of money, but at the time of writing this, just over an hour after the donations have gone live, over $1000 has already been raised, and I am so thankful.
Please, if you have the means, even a dollar will help. But if not, sharing is super helpful too. Please, please let my baby boy, my pretty kitty, come home to me.
