Squint and I watched DEADSTREAM (2022) last night on Shudder - it was an excellent horror comedy in exactly the right ways.
A disgraced livestreamer, known for hijinks and stunts makes a return to the internet after his account ban was lifted, with a solo overnight stay in a haunted abandoned house.
It both understood what makes ghost hunting videos so fun, and what makes the current landscape of livestreaming so fucked.
Excellent humor, fantastic practical effects, beautifully crafted cinematography and clever tricks. One of those - it knows what it is but it commits so hard to the bit type films. Highly recommend if you enjoy a bit of black humor and satirical comedy revolving around influencers and their controversies, parasocial relationships, and the churn of the capitalist machine. And ghost hunting!!!!
