This is my office neighbor dog “Loki”. He is completely deaf. Q&A SERIES: A follower asked about teaching a deaf dog to watch you. The best way to do this is to teach a "watch me" hand sign. In fact, it's the first sign I teach any deaf dog. The link below explains in depth how to do this, but the long & short of it is to hold a treat and use your raised index finger to draw your dog's attention to your face. As soon as he looks at you, immediately reward the behavior by giving him the treat. Repeat this several times every day. Very quickly, he will learn the "watch me" hand sign and will also begin to check in with you for information on his own. Easy-squeezy! As far as vibration collars and vests go, in my opinion, those are best used for recall.
