he usually doesnt splurge, sticks to gas stations and convience stores, and never ever pays mind to this holiday but this year its different

special

as he and cas have finally gotten their heads out of their asses and acknowledged this thing between them

it may be silly, getting a fallen angel a cheesy valentine card full of glitter and floof but dammit dean is happy

for the first time in his godforsaken life, hes happy. and maybe even definitely in love so hes gonna go all the fuck out

because cas is worth it

worth everything

and deans gonna spend the rest of his days proving it so. showing it any way he can

hes halfway to the self checkouts when he spots a little girl walk by carrying a giant stuffed elephant nearly as big as she is and before he even realizes his mouth is moving, hes asking her mom where they found it

she smiles, kind, and points dean to the opposite end of the store. says theres a whole 'shop' for the occasion.

15 minutes later deans walking out to the impala with both arms full, and a giant, wide goofy grin stretching from ear to ear

Bed sharing + Heartbeat

Castiel stared up at the ceiling, trying to will his heart to beat slower. The room was mostly dark, save for the light from a lamppost outside that shone faintly through the thin curtains. Even so, Castiel could see what looked like water stains on the ceiling, dark spots in the white paint.

Next to him, inches away, Dean slept on. They’d gone to bed what felt like hours ago - the one bed this room had - and Dean had fallen asleep in a matter of minutes. 

Castiel, meanwhile, had been doing his best to tune out his presence but it seemed an impossible task. How was he meant to relax enough to fall asleep with the man he loved lying in the bed next to him, clad only in boxers and a grey t-shirt?

Giving into temptation, Castiel glanced over at Dean. Or, it was meant to be a glance, but Castiel’s eyes were caught the moment they fell on Dean. 

His features were slack, lips slightly parted, and even with the stark shadows playing across his face he looked impossibly soft in his sleep. Castiel’s heart seized, overwhelmed by a swell of affection.

Without permission, his hand reached out. Castiel knew he shouldn’t but he couldn’t help himself, the short distance between them suddenly too much to bear. As a guilty compromise, he settled for touching Dean’s shoulder, the one spot Dean would have allowed if he’d been awake.

Then Dean shifted. Castiel froze, heart racing faster still, but his eyes didn’t open. Dean exhaled with a soft sound and then he rolled in close, slinging an arm around Castiel’s waist. His face was now tucked into the crook of Castiel’s neck, puffs of breath feeling warm even against overheated skin.

Castiel swallowed, casting a desperate glance towards the ceiling.

It was going to be a long night.

it’s after gadreel has left his body and sam doesn’t feel right, he hasn’t felt good or pure for so long, and he hasn’t slept properly in weeks so he finds the nearest shul and sinks into the mikveh, and it’s only when the rabbi comes in that he lets himself cry
