Debbie Gallagher x Reader: She’s a Keeper
Day 2/5
“She’s coming over here! Shhh! Act natural!” you hear Debbie whisper yell to Holly as you make your way over to them. You had finally decided to ask her out after months of deciding to do it, then psyching yourself out by saying she wouldn’t be interested in you. You worked up the courage to do it in the library, where you currently were.
“Hey, Y/N,” Holly gives you a flirtatious smile, Debbie looks down at her hands.
“Hey Debbie,” you smile, Debbie looks up and around her like the greeting was meant for someone else.
“Me?” she points to herself, eyebrows raised in disbelief.
“Her?” Holly says just as confused. You disregard Holly and keep talking to Debbie.
“Who else?” you chuckle, keeping eye contact with her. She looks away.
“Hey, Y/N,” Holly pulls your attention to her. You look over to her.
“You should come over and we-” Holly continued but Debbie cut her off.
“Do you want to have dinner with me and my family tomorrow night,” Debbie quickly rushes out. You snap your head to Debbie.
“Yeah, sure Debs. I’d love to,” you smirk. Thank God I didn’t have to ask, you thought to yourself.
“I gotta go to Algebra, Bye Debbie,” you wink and turn around. Out of the corner of your eye you see Debbie's face turns bright red and she drops her head on the wooden table.
~~~~~~
“Everything has to be perfect!” Debbie shouts to everyone as she franticly gets ready.
“Ok, Debs. We get it, we get it,” Lip put his hand up in surrender. Fiona put the steaming bowl of spaghetti on the table.
“Okay, um,” she looks around making sure everything is perfect, “I think we’re ready,”
You knock on the door.
“Oh my god! ANY of you embarrass me and we are not family any more!” she tells everyone before running to the door. She look down at herself, smoothing down her skirt. She takes a deep breath, then opens the door smiling.
“How have we never heard of this chick before?” lip whispers to Ian. The rest of the family was watching from the kitchen.
“No clue,” Ian answers.
You grinned when Debbie opens the door. You hid a bouquet of flowers behind your back.
“Wow,” you breath, “ you look…..amazing,” you smiled sincerely.
“Thanks,” she blushed, looking at her shoes.
“Come in,” she says moving out of the way.
“You can hang your coat up there,” she smiled awkwardly. You take your coat off carefull to not let her see the flowers. She walks into the living room, and you stop her.
“Here,” you grin, you hand her the deep red roses.
“They’re beautiful,” she stares at them.
“Beautiful flowers for a beautiful girl,” you start, you shake your head, “Sorry, that was super cheesy,” you laugh.
“Yeah it was,” she giggles.
“You wanna eat,” she shoves her thumb over her shoulder.
“Yeah,” you follow her to the kitchen. Fiona and Lip ended up sitting at the heads of the table. You sat next to Debbie on one side of the table, Carl and Ian sat on the other side. Liam sat in his highchair next to Lip.
After what felt like forever you finally decided to talk. The family was holding back from how they usually were, you could sense that.
“The food is amazing Miss Gallagher,” you smiled, breaking the ice.
“Thanks, you can just call me Fiona, by the way,” she said smiling.
“Sorry Miss- er, Fiona,” you chuckle.
“No need to apologise,” Fionna said smiling with furrowed brows, shaking her head. No one from the South side is ever this nice and polite.
“Where are you from, Y/N,” Ian said, “You don’t seem like a South side kid,”
“Sorry to disappoint, South side born and raised,” you said chuckling.
“But you just seem so….”
“North side?” you finished Ian sentence.
“Uh, Yeah,” Ian felt bad about bringing it up, you just seemed so nice, that you could have never been from around there.
“Home life sucks…..My Dad disowned me for who I choose to love, Mom split when I was born. My siblings are just a bunch heathens...I told myself that I wasn’t gonna be like the rest of my family, I was gonna work hard. I was gonna go to school, college, work at some office. Build a family that I was gonna love unconditionally. Give my family what I never had ya know, I’m gonna be better than my dick father, and my mother,” you looked back down at your plate. You felt Debbie Lace her fingers in yours, you look over to her and smile. She smiles back.
“I-” the ringing of your phone cuts you off. You answer, it was your dad.
“Shit,” you mumble to yourself.
“Speaking of sucky home lives. I gotta go, sorry to cut this short. Thank you again for the food Fiona,” you pause.
“Bye Debbie,” you look to her smiling. You kiss her on the check then hurry out of the house with your coat. Debbie Blushes and turns around.
“Bye!” she hollers. After dinner Fiona and Debbie were in the Kitchen cleaning up.
“She’s a keeper Debs,” Fiona smiles.
“Yeah, she is,” Debbie grins. Debbie wasn’t going to let you go anytime soon.
