Another decapedia question

Me: Okay, I need to stop all wiki work until my exams are over Also me: Oh no, there are chapters named things like 'the prydonian paper' and 'the president' and 'blackout'- what will we do when we need to create pages both on the chapters, and on events, like 'blackouts' and 'president of gallifrey'? We can make sure the non-chapter pages have slightly different names (such as those just listed), but I'm worried that might get confusing. We could put on the titles of the non-chapter pages brackets at the end, such as "Room 209 (room)", or, we could put "(The Deca Series)" after each chapter name. It's what a lot of other wikis do- for example, "Episode Name (Episode)", or "Episode Name (Series 1)".

Rn on the wiki, chapters that are part of 'Insignificant Memories' do have this in brackets after the title, so it should be either "The Deca" or "The Deca Series" if we are going with that option, to be in keeping with how we already name other chapter pages.

As this is mainly for searching purposes- making sure it's easy to find the page you want on the wiki- whatever is easiest for users to understand will be what is implemented. However, I am aware that what is easiest for me to understand might not be true of everyone else, and I want to make sure we're doing whatever is easiest for the most people. So, giving some options:

Which of these makes most sense/ would be easiest to understand?

Just name chapter vs non-chapter pages slightly differently

Bracket term after non-chapter names that are similar to chapter names

Bracket term "(The Deca)" after every chapter

Bracket term "(The Deca Series)" after every chapter

Bracket term "(Series Number)" after every chapter *

Drummed out a new theme specifically for pages related to deca stuff from doctor who. I'd appreciate any thoughts about the colours, and about what colours I should make the other sections!

As a reminder, the sections will be:

Doctor Who Academy Era

Doctor Who Deca

Deca Fandom

Academy Era Fandom

The Deca Series

The idea is that the current main theme (the red and yellow one) will be for the wider site, with either the same theme or smth very similar for The Deca Series. There'll be a specific main page for the deca series to kinda ground visitors to the site, with key links to characters and series, things like that. Then, the two doctor who sections should I think be similar as well, as the DoctorWhoDeca section is kind of a sub of the DoctorWhoAcademyEra one (it won't be listed that way, but like, in terms of what they cover...). Same with the fandoms. I thought, blue for Who stuff, red for the Deca Fic, then maybe idk, pale yellow for the fandom? Maybe with the DrWhoAE one being like, a darker purply-blue and the DrWhoDeca a lighter blue, and the pale yellow for AEF with DF being a light orange? Just think the colours of more similar sections should be more similar to reflect that relationship.

I can change the current colours to better fit with the others too, if you think that'll be good. I'm starting to think about maybe a lighter site theme? idk

Decapedia status update

Hey y'all, I thought I should make a little update post about what we've been up to in wikiland lately! I know I've been neglecting tumblr a little in favour of discord - where, by the way, there are now 16 of us! Join us here!

So, recent big changes to the wiki:

We now have a page for every chapter of Insignificant Memories and Decaeological Findings, which were the first two spin-offs of the Deca Fic!

We reached 300 pages - we're now at 340!!! To celebrate, we forcibly introduced someone to the Deca by reading her Divided Loyalties over voice chat (:

We now have several editors! Huge thank you to the multiple people who helped us get to 300 (and beyond)!

We have instituted new policies around self coverage (allowed, but be careful) and retitling!

Upcoming changes and how you can help:

I've been working hard on the css for some infoboxes, which we will be implementing soon! This should make wiki pages easier to understand and navigate.

Workin' on the how-to wiki pages - these will serve as guides for new editors (:

Once we've got pages on each of the indelible echoes chapters, we need to focus on writing plot summaries and adding new information about characters and locations to the 'notes' section for fic chapters! The wiki's growing, which is excellent, but we also need to make sure it has quality content, not just quantity! This (and adding the infoboxes when they're ready) are the big things it would be great if people could focus on.

Some Deca characters only have one image, so it would be lovely if we could add some more - specifically, if anyone has art of Drax, Magnus, Rallon, Ushas, or Vansell, and would be okay with them being on the wiki, please dm me!

Relationship pages. The previous poll result is not feasible, so, I will run a new poll around that.

Decapedia discord

Going to be running some more polls soon, so this is your reminder that a) the wiki needs more active editors, and b) we have a discord! The discord is a great way to find other Deca fans and keep up to date on updates to the Wiki. Plus I've been giving daily editing tips over there, and there's places to get help with editing if you're new to it, or if you get stuck!

Decapedia notice: I've been diligently adding pages to the correct categories now that I've got both the new coverage policy and the new main pages up and running! We're nearly there folks!!

However, I've realised something: the whole point of making these sections different colours was to make things easier for people browsing the wiki to easily know which section they're in. But I think in emphasising the difference between the sections, I've failed to acknowledge their similarity. Now that I'm actually sorting specific pages into one section or another, I'm realising that splitting doctorwhodeca and doctorwhoacademyera/academyerafandom and decafandom might have been a mistake.

The thing is, there are pages that should be part of both. For example, BBC Books, publisher of various DW academy era related and deca related books. Now, the first most obvious solution is probably "maybe there should be three sections instead of five, perhaps "thedecaseries", "doctorwho", and "fandom". However, the infrastructure is already all set up for five categories - it wouldn't be impossible to change, just would take more time and energy on my part. So, I had another idea: What if we instead just made the colour scheme for decafandom and academyerafandom the same, and doctorwhodeca and doctorwhoacademyera the same? That way, there'd be no jarrring feeling when moving around related pages, but the categories would still be named differently, as would the main section pages, which would help differentiate between pages that feel quite different but aren't so differnet as to be a whole other colour scheme.

@tardissupremacy since you were interested in the colour stuff before I thought I'd tag you, but anyone is welcome to respond with opinions - I would very much welcome any comments!! (preferably on wiki by going to the main page's talk page and typing in your comment, but if not, here is okay too)

Okay, it turns out that the skin we were using, evelution, has finally broken. So, I've picked a new one and am currently trying to get the colour setting looking nice - if someone coudl take a look and tell me what they think, that would be awesome! Please feel free to suggest colours to use and if multiple poeple suggest the same one, I'll go with that. For now, I've gone for a deep blue-green. Still working on some bits, but yeah, please tell me if you'd prefer another colour!
