“Heatherrrrr, help meeeee!” Declan exclaimed, languishing across Heather’s couch in the depths of despair. “I’m having,” he grimaced, “girl trouble.” He covered his face with his hands with a groan, signing the rest. ‘I’m such an idiot. She confessed and I said I had to go to the bathroom and ran away.’

Declan was super excited about the festival. He’d been looking forward to it for weeks now. He’d barely been able to sit still as Eva helped him with his costume makeup, wiggling in his seat like a little kid. He knew it wouldn’t be the same as when he actually was a kid. No trick-or-treating after dark or painting the town red with his high school buddies. But that didn’t mean he couldn’t still have fun.
“Heather!” he exclaimed excitedly when he saw her, waving ecstatically, hoping she’d notice him as he didn’t want to startle her.
