As a U.K person to whom guns are imaginary, how much more difficult is it to accurately hit the target with a sniper rifle (From sniper-esque distances) in comparison to a regular rifleman? I'm aware of bulletdrop, coriolis effect etc. So I can roughly imagine they'd be a reasonable difference. But exactly how big a gulf in challenge is there in your own opinion? Thank you very much 😊
Long range shooting is HARD. There’s a reason people need to train and practice so much for it. Bullet drop, coriolis effect, wind, temperature, all kinds of variables need to be accounted for and any one of them can fuck up your shot if you get it wrong.
The rifles themselves aren’t fundamentally different from any other, they’re just made to a higher standard (to give you a rough idea - on a standard infantryman’s rifle you might have a part that needs to be machined with a tolerance of +/- tens of thou, and on a sniper rifle it needs to be within single-digit thou or even less). Ammo plays a huge role as well - you might hear some rounds referred to as “match grade,” which indicates that there’s much less variability in terms of bullet weight and amount of propellant than normal. It’s just like the guns themselves, you need high-quality ammo to ensure that every single round behaves the exact same way every time you pull the trigger.
