Look who's come out to say hi this morning! From my black garden: Black Dhalia 🖤 Just read the neatest article about this specific flower and it's meaning. As many of you might already know, flowers have been associated w meaning for ages [aka pink roses represent admiration, white rose = sincerity, purity and yellow rose = friendship]. In the Victorian era, Black Dahlias [unlike most mourning flowers] represented a good wish for a couple + commitment. 🖤 *side note: the Dahlia is also the national flower of Mexico, and was actually given its name by the director of the Royal Gardens of Madrid in honor of his fellow botanist: Andrew Dahl. 🖤 #gothgardening #blackflower [July 25th, 2017] From my black garden: here's just a little update for those of you who've been waiting as patiently as I have been for this Black Sunflower to bloom! It's been about 2 weeks since I've given you guys a garden update from my black garden. These giant black sunflowers are getting closer to blooming - but in the meantime check out how much taller they've gotten!! 😮[July 21st, 2017] From my black garden: Giant Mammoth Black Sunflower. 🖤 Since I can't reach high enough to take a photo of the tallest black sunflower, here's a shot of one of the short guys - everyday we get closer to them finally showing their sweet faces! Notice the deep black veins compared to regular yellow sunflowers who's foliage is a solid green. From my black garden: Pennie Blacks [also nicknamed "Baby Black Eyes"] These flowers were popular amongst the Victorians, and are extremely easy to grow. This sweet, little girl has been teasing me every morning while I patiently wait for her glorious arrival here in my black plant garden! She's a special type of Bearded Iris called "Hello, Darkness" - appropriately named since her species of Iris far surpasses all other dark Iris in the sheer degree of her black color. Just a few more days before she's in full bloom! I think most people would be shocked/frightened at how easy it is for me to forever isolate. The hardest part about being a happy hermit, is having to inevitably leave the house.
