The Israelites, also known as the Children of Israel,
The Israelites were a Semitic-speaking people who inhabited Canaan during the “Iron Age” (1200 BC -550 BC). They originated as the Ancient Hebrews and spoke an original variety of the Hebrew language that is commonly called “Biblical Hebrew” by association with the Hebrew Bible (Torah) originally and later the Christian Bible or Holy Bible. The Israelite community located primarily in Israel and Judah which were two adjoined kingdoms whose capital cities were Samaria and Jerusalem, respectively was comprised of Twelve Tribes of Israel named after Jacob who is called ‘Israel’, and theoretically one tribe from lands as far away as Ethiopia and the Belgian Congo in Africa [Wikipedia]
Bethlehem was a Palestinian West Bank region until 1967 when Israel conquered the Palestine city. Palestine won control of Bethlehem again in 1995. According to the Holy Bible, the Virgin Mary and husband Joseph (son of David) lived in Nazareth, Galilee near Bethlehem, Judea where they walked and where baby Jesus Christ was born, which was near Jerusalem. Bethlehem, Judea was then a Roman province of Syria-Palestine when Christ lived, was crucified, and when he resurrected. The Modern State of Palestine is a country in West Asia officially recognized by a majority of the United Nations today, which includes the Israeli-occupied West Bank (where East Jerusalem is located), Bethlehem, and the war-torn Gaza Strip.
