I am a 9 and I have been putting in a conscious effort to really give my partner (a 2) the attention and all the affection she needs. Sometimes it's hard for me & I just want to become withdrawn into my own world. I know my ego can really take over at times and I can be very cold and distant. Will this get easier for me or will it always be a struggle? Do you have any tips?
I actually think you might have your priorities wrong here.
What you’re doing is really great, being there for your partner, giving them love and attention. However, from the way you’ve described it, it seems to be a very self-forgetting love. You’ve only described it based around what your partner wants and needs and how you are getting in the way of that. In my opinion, that’s not healthy for you, especially as a Type 9
My advice would be to focus more on yourself. I know you feel as if your ego takes over and makes you detach but if you are really in touch with yourself, you can figure out why this happens. It might just be that you need to spend time alone to recharge yourself. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just how your personality works.
In terms of the ego getting in the way of your relationship, it could definitely be a source of conflict in the future. When egos brush against each other for long enough the friction sparks the fight. However, if the both of you are actively working at self-awareness and awareness of each other then it becomes a lot easier to deal with problems the ego might bring up.
A good relationship is a meeting of equals. You’ve got just as much importance in this as your partner.
