Leonardville Wharf in Deer island, NB at blue hour low tide. I shot this after rushing over from the other side of the island catching the sunset. I literally ran across the beach and drove 10 minutes in order to grab a couple blue hour shots I planned earlier in the day. There isn't much time between sunset and blue hour as it only lasts about 10 minutes. Great day beach glass finding and just wandering around checking out random roads we have never been down. Leonardville even has it's own mini post office. Midsummer Moment For many reasons this has been the summer to explore New Brunswick. This province is so incredibly beautiful with so many paintable moments. One of my favourite Maritime scenes has always been rocks in the water. I find it so comforting to bask in the sun and watch the water and it’s many personalities. Just soaking it all in. This particular day on #deerisland the water was gently caressing the rocks. Cormorants were sunning themselves out there and ducks were enjoying their time floating in the gentle movement of the water. Of course, I took many reference photos. This painting is a relatively small one for me at 12x24”. And I learned something important for me. Detail is much more challenging with oils at this size than it is in watercolour. Something to remember going forward. I smile when I look at this painting from across the room. It brings back the feeling that I experienced that day - the sun and the calmness.
