The Ravenwoods, Round 1 Spring

First order of business for the season was to hire a live-in servant (butler). Meet Deirdre Murphy. She gets along well with the Ravenwoods and is very dependable with her household tasks. She's not a bad cook either.

Prosper is a very active man, despite his old age. He spent most of his free time exercising or practicing martial arts. He hasn't shown any interest in retiring from his military position any time soon (though part of that may be because he likes to have an excuse to visit all the attractive men at the military barracks).

While Prosper is at work, Gabriel spends his days either playing the lute or hanging out at his fishing venue (or both).

Gabriel's Lifetime Wish is to be Super Popular, so he constantly craves social interaction. He's a very kind and friendly person, so he gets along with pretty much everyone in town...most of the time.

He and Carl Hofstad come to an arrangement where the Hofstads provide him with all the fish they catch at his venue, and in return the Ravenwood estate would pay for their rent. His generosity means that Carl won't owe a late fee at the next tax day.

On Prosper's days off, he enjoyed visiting St. Luna's and giving skill lectures...though not many people seemed to be interested in them, lol.

For Love Day, Gabriel threw a party, which turned out to be a huge hit with the guests. His lute-playing may have had something to do with that, lol.

By the end of the season, Prosper had made enough money from his career to pay gentry-class rent and taxes.

Final five speakers announced!

Ever dreamed of making music in the Royal Albert Hall? On 23 September you could get the chance - if newly announced TEDxAlbertopolis speaker Andrew Shoben gets his way. In a world first, Andrew plans to turn the Hall into a giant interactive music box with the audience as the working parts..

Andrew is the founder of greyworld, a group of artists that produce playful art in public spaces. He will use a camera positioned on the Hall’s ceiling to capture the distribution of colours across the seats below. As the camera pans across the auditorium, an algorithm will convert those colours into sounds and each attendee will act as a pin in a giant music box, playing their part in a unique musical composition.

“The performance will be the first of its kind, combining mathematics, technology and creativity to turn the audience into a completely original instrument,” says Andrew, who has wanted to create an artwork with a live audience for some time. “The opportunity to work with a space as exciting as the Royal Albert Hall is a dream come true. The Hall is full of fabulous sounds, and this formed the inspiration for our idea - to treat our audience as if they are notes in a composition. The exciting - and the nerve-wracking – thing, will be that we won’t know how the composition will sound until I am on stage, conducting. It’s a really exciting opportunity for everyone to be involved in.”

As well as Andrew, we are excited to announce four other extraordinary speakers who finalise our line-up - 

Historian Deirdre Murphy, who is curator of collections at the Historic Royal Palaces, including Kensington Palace, and an expert on the lives of Prince Albert and Queen Victoria.

Touretteshero Jessica Thom, who is “changing the world one tic at a time” by challenging people to react creatively and humorously to Tourette’s Syndrome.

Architectural critic, writer and editor Kieran Long, who engages people with design by breaking down barriers between disciplines. He is senior curator of contemporary architecture, design and digital at the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Evening Standard’s architecture critic.

And award-winning choreographer Ryan Francois, who is one of the world’s foremost authorities on jazz dance from the 1920s, 30s and 40s. His choreography brings a unique modern approach to traditional styles and has been featured on TV shows such as ‘Dancing With The Stars’ and ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ - where he choreographed the infamous Charleston routine that earned Chris Hollins & Ola Jordan four 10s in the final.

This September and October at the Painted Bride Art Center Café Gallery, InLiquid presents Murmurations, a solo exhibition of new paintings on paper by Deirdre Murphy. Murphy’s recent paintings are inspired by the patterns, murmurs, and energy concentrated in the collective intelligence of bird flocks. Her work visually explores the rules that guide the collective swarm to pulse, shift and change. The exhibit runs September 6 to October 20 with two First Friday receptions on September 6 AND October 4, 5 pm – 7 pm. Gallery exhibitions at the Painted Bride are FREE and open to the public.

Deirdre Murphy received her MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute. Her art is represented by Gross McCleaf Gallery in Philadelphia. Murphy’s drawings and paintings have been exhibited at the Bridgette Mayer Gallery, Melanee Cooper Gallery, (Chicago), Vita Gallery, (Portland, OR). She has participated in group exhibitions at the Painting Center (NY), the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Abington Art Center, Phoenix Gallery, (NY); Bowery Gallery, (NY); Portland Institute of Contemporary Art; and Tacoma Art Museum, Washington. She has received grants from the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts and the Leeway Foundation.

Deirdre Murphy writes about her recent paintings: “My work investigates constellations of movements. I am especially interested in the patterns, murmurations and energy concentrated in the collective intelligence of bird flocks. I am fascinated by the rules that guide the collective swarm to pulse, shift and change. A single bird turns and causes its neighbor to move, thus setting off a simultaneous chain reaction that transforms hundreds of birds inside the flock to undulate. What creates this uncanny, beautiful coordination of these birds? How does their collective consciousness cause the flock to paint such abstract shapes in the sky? I see a correlation of pattern in the stellar explosion of a supernova and the growth of irregular cellular formation. In my paintings. I try and decode patterns to find the push or pulse within, to discover the visual force of energy that makes unpredictable abstract shapes. It is the butterfly effect, of one individual causing great change among others that is the subject of my art.”
