Del Borgo's Old Antonia
The story starts with. . .
My Antonia (named after the Willa Cather read), is a continually-hopped imperial pilsner. This lager for ale lovers is citrusy, sweet and refined.
My Antonia started out as a collaboration beer when Sam brewed it at Birra del Borgo (hope you can read Italian) outside Rome, Italy, with owner/brewer Leonardo DiVencenzo in October 2008. In 2010, we began brewing My Antonia here in Delaware for U.S. distribution.
As an aside, in June 2009, Leonardo came over to Delaware and brewed our original batch of Namaste with us at our Rehoboth Beach brewpub. And Leo is also one of the brewers involved in the Eataly project in New York City. What goes around, comes around. (DFH)
Beer Education Wednesday: Old Antonia!
This is a Double IPA inspired by My Antonia and then aged in Etienne-Dupont Calvados Barrels! Searching through the inter-webs I found that this may have been originally created for the "Un Mare di Birra," a beer cruise started by Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fà for their 10th Anniversary. (Ma Che is an amazing beer bar in Rome!) And it was originally keg only for the cruise. The beer cruise is supposed to be epic with world renowned beer industry folks and a lot of crazy beer. We heard some stories while we were in Italy and were actually urged to join in this past year. The cruise goes from Roma to Barcelona and back. It is also complete with special casks, tappings, and a whole lot of stories that don't leave the boat! Here are some pictures including our man Jerome Rebetez from BFM!
