Baird's Sandpiper
I recall that I saw this little guy in Cape May, New Jersey. A few of us went down one autumn to see hawks and warblers. The town sits at the point of a funnel; birds of all kinds gather there as they psyche themselves up for the jump over Delaware Bay.
I would have never noticed species as shorebirds was never my thing, but some power birders in attendance (the hawk watch there is a thing) identified it as being at least somewhat rare for the area.
From when I was an active birder thirty years ago. One image by Richard Koenig; taken most likely in 1991 or 1992.
