You know what I really liked? In the first episode of season 4, Damon tells Elena that Stefan didn't save her(and she drowned), but Stefan said that she had Damons blood in her sistem,so she didn't really die. It's like the writers showing us what Damon said in season 2 : that Stefan cares only about the colateral damage(including that he didn't save Elena first) and Damon is the person that will keep her alive,no matter what.
OMG YOU ARE SO RIGHT.
damon loves her so much that he is willing to overlook the small arguments and petty fights that will result because he disagrees with elena. the only thing he cares about is that she BE ALIVE and OKAY. he has been consistent with this throughout... and I LIKE THAT ;)
