My rant about Delicious, over texts
friend 1: Obsessed much?
me: Obsessed? Excuse me while I run to the Swiss Alps and laugh hysterically.
me: But don't just put my anger at Delicious' failure down to just obsession. Think about how angry you felt when you lost your torrents. In my case, I treasure those links more than I would ever treasure any torrents (well, maybe not, but it comes close). It's the fact that they are moronic enough to think that their removal of a sidebar in order to make it more like a social network would benefit the usability and convenience of their site towards users. Their latest blog post was actually about users in fandom using the site to bookmark fanfics and cosplay and other miscellaneous links, can you believe that? They KNOW and ACKNOWLEDGE that fandom is a great, if not the majority of their user demographic, but the changes to the site do little to think about the convenience and needs of their users.
friend 2: Good Lord, woman! Are you writing an essay!?
friend 2: (after 4 minutes) OH MY GOD you are writing an essay
friend 2: (after another 2 minutes) Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
me: I have recommended Delicious to many people, as Delicious is the "most popular bookmarking site" and admittedly, yes, was an extremely efficient one. But note, WAS. That was before the new developers came and thought up all these new ideas to boost popularity, however thus declining their usability. I have to seek out other sources of bookmarking because what used to be an innovative, simple and aesthetically pleasing, easy-on-the-eye, user-friendly archival interface has now turned into an attention whoring network that desperately pleads users to pay attention to them, all the while denying and standing in utter disbelief that the implemented changes have left users wanting to completely abandon the site. But to remedy the situation, instead of reverting it back to its precious interface before everyone started complaining, they try to implement more features in an attempt to cover up and make up for all that is missing.
friend 2: OH MY GOD
me: Word limit cut me off.
friend 2: (after 2 minutes) *wails* stop typing. It's time to step AWAY FROM THE KEYBOARD. Before someone gets hurt!
me: Diigo, however not as nice on the eyes, is reminiscent of the previous Delicious that many users have found effective and efficient, also providing a service that allows users to synchronise their bookmarks to Delicious, an indication that their developers actually have the intelligence to understand that there are other bookmarking sites that we use, which is precisely what Delicious lacks- their failure to understand what their users need and do.
me: I think I'm done.
