Spirit and Such Deleted: Chapter 6.0
In my original plans for Spirit and Such, I thought about having my fandemon, Alioth, cameo as Sam’s secretary, but introducing them proved to create more problems than it solved. I reworked Chapter Six to smooth things out a little, but I still really like the way the first draft came out.
(I’m still taking character asks, btw! :3 )
Someone was sitting at Sam’s desk when they walked in.
Delina stared. The stranger’s purple blazer and blue, striped tie looked like some kind of school uniform, but not one she recognized, and the sharp heels they wore glinted dangerously in the office’s fluorescent lights. The shoes matched the wicked smile that curved across their face when Sam saw them and stopped dead.
“You!”
They burst into laughter, banging on the desk. “You should've seen your face!”
Sam dragged a hand through his hair. “What– How did you even get here?”
“I walked!”
Sam glared at them. They snorted. “No, seriously! I had some free time on my hands after dealing with your last appointment and figured I’d stop by. Wanted to see that new kid you keep fussing about.”
He frowned. “Do not.”
“And speaking of, here she is!”
Delina tried to take a step back, but the stranger was already in her face, peering closely into her eyes. “Uh,” she managed. “Who are you?”
“You can call me Ali,” they grinned, bumping their nose against hers. “Boop! Haha, I’ve got a nose!”
“Oookay. Hi, Ali, nice to meet you.” Delina retreated a step. Ali advanced one. “Can I... get a little space?”
“One more.” They booped her again, with a finger this time. “Boop.”
Delina stared at them. They stared back. “Um. Can you move back a bit now?”
“Oops, sorry.” They took a contrite step backward, then caught sight of Mags. “Ooh, who’s your friend?”
Sam met Delina’s eyes with a grimace. “I’m sorry about them. They’re really not supposed to be here.”
Behind the two of them, Ali pounced. Mags struggled to shove their face off their shoulder, but Ali, undaunted, simply licked their palm. “Gross! You taste like hairspray and jealousy!” they enthused.
“I don’t even use hairspray!”
Delina stifled a giggle. “That’s okay. Are they another student of yours?”
Sam frowned, still watching Mags. “Sort of?”
“I’m more like his secretary,” Ali chirped. “I take his messages and answer anything he doesn’t wanna deal with.” They waved a hand in the air. “I’m, like, the boss’s right hand guy!”
“You’re giving yourself way too much credit,” Sam told them.
They cringed. “Sorry, boss.”
