Your name is Deloch, and you’ve made a mistake.

You’re shaking as you step out of Saffel’s hive. There’s a feeling of nausea churning in the pit of your stomach, and you’re filled with the overwhelming, desperate need to get as far away from here as possible. Telling your best friend of the news about your newly-forming relationship with Raatri had seemed like such a good idea at the time, but now-- now, after being accused of being taken advantage of; after being told how awful it is to hear about the things that make you happy; after being brutally reminded that every romantic endeavor you make is doomed to failure-- you just want to disappear.

Your first few steps down the street are slow and clumsy, like you’ve briefly forgotten how to walk, but eventually you get yourself moving and you fumble for your phone in your pocket as you do so.

For a minute or two, you stare at the blank screen.

“You ought to go. I’ll see you tomorrow though, if you like.” “Ah-- sure. Text me.”

The lump in your throat grows. You hurl your phone to the ground and shatter it with your heel, trying to keep down the rising sense of panic-- or is that vomit?-- in your throat. You fucked up, you fucked up, you fucked up. He said it was fine, and that he’d get over it, but you know it isn’t true. You feel trapped, cornered, and like you suddenly have to make a choice between these two equally important people in your life. But you can’t. Of course you can’t. And so it’s time to get away from here. From Saffel, and from Raatri, and from all these feelings you ever made the mistake of developing, because, well, shit-- it’ll all be better off that way anyway, won’t it? Simpler. Easier.
