@demdupes:
“Go on…”
“ You’ll have to come closer to find out. “ She said, dangling the keys to her motorcycle.

It was some time between finishing off their business deal and the next time Cait visited his office, but eventually she found herself back in Jamie’s doorway. “So, what’s your policy on grabbing a drink with former clients?”
Madrox cause of course I'm saying that

I honestly love Rictor and Jamie’s relationship. It’s really complicated, because I don’t think that either one of them is actually very... good at having friends. The way that they try to be friends in the first half of XFI is kind of forced. They’re both trying to do things the way that they think they should be done. The scene in the bar is a good example of this--teasing each other about their sex lives, sharing a few beers--it’s all very stereotypical male social behavior.
And that scene is hilarious, because they’re bad at it. They don’t really know each other well enough to be having that kind of conversation, but it’s the kind that guys are supposed to have together. If they were actually as close during that scene as they pretend to be, then we wouldn’t have gotten the spit takes, because they would have been expecting the other one’s jokes--or at the very least, Rictor would have expected Jamie’s jab about Shatterstar.
After that scene, I think they both kind of decided to turn back the dial a lot, and it shows. They went back to a much more lowkey type of teasing (”Bogey you’re not, honey.” “I thought your motto was dear god, please don’t force me to make a decision.” “Don’t speak Spanish, you sound like an idiot.”) and you actually see them starting to develop a friendship.
Rictor was the first one to stand up for Jamie after the baby incident, which isn’t something most people would have expected, because basically everyone knows that Terry is his Best Friend. But by that point, he respected Jamie, and he actually understood him in a way that he hadn’t in the beginning. I think that understanding was the key factor in Rictor going from considering him an annoying coworker to an actual good friend.
Sometimes, when Rictor looks at Jamie, he sees something very familiar behind his eyes. They both struggle with depression, the series made that very clear. Even though they never talk about it with each other (aside from the X-Factor Dupe talking Rictor off the ledge at the very beginning) but they both know. And they understand how the other one feels, which I think is why they don’t talk about it. Neither one of them wants to talk about their feelings like that. Once Rictor realized that Jamie was just as depressed and lost as him, that’s when they became friends. And having a friend who understands that pain is something that is so important to him, even if he’ll never admit it, and especially not to Jamie’s face.
So, while he’ll never tell Jamie this, he’s one of his best friends, and he genuinely cares for the guy. He just shows that through being an asshole to his face and kind behind his back. Because that’s what Rictor does with most of his friends, especially most of his male friends.

“My eyes are up here you know,” Karen said with a sigh trying to direct the man’s eyes from her ample cleavage.
@demdupes
“Fancy meeting you here.”
“You haven’t tried to talk with me one on one in months, Madrox. What gives?” Jamie was terrible at facing his feelings, or dealing with anything that was even the slightest bit difficult. If he wanted to talk with Rictor, then it was important.

least favorite hero?
Gonna put this one under a cut, as it’s just my opinion. Just because I’m not a fan of a character, doesn’t mean I won’t interact with them here, I’d like to stress that.
