CHRYSOLITE

An old name for a variety of stones which includes all yellow, green or yellow-green gems which includes chrysoberyl, peridot and tourmaline).  No longer used as a descriptive term in modern day Gemology.

The names of the different rocks which were originally related to the name Chrysolite are:

Aquamarine Chrysolite -a greenish-yellow beryl.

Bohemian Chrysolite

Brazilian Chrysolite - a tourmaline chrysoberyl. 

Cape Chrysolite - a prehnite.

Chrysolite Beryl - an incorrect name for greenish-yellow to light yellow-green beryl. 

Chrysolite Chrysoberyl - an aquamarine.

Chrysolite Peridot - a variety of olivine, or peridot.

Chrysolite Sapphire - a misleading term for a light, yellow-green sapphire.

Chrysolite Spinel - an incorrect name for a light greenish-yellow spinel.

Chrysolite Topaz - a misleading term for greenish yellow topaz. Also called Saxony Topaz or Saxon Topaz.

Chrysolite Water - a misleading term for moldavite.

Evening Emerald - a name for most green gems but generally those belonging to the Chrysolite family. 

Moldovite Glass.

Oriental Chrysolite - a chrysoberyl or a sapphire

Opalescent Chrysolite - a chrysoberyl

Pseudo-Chrysolite - a pale green chrysoberyl.

Saxony Chrysolite - a greenish-yellow topaz. 

Schiller Chrysolite - a chrysoberyl

Siberian Chrysolite - usually olivine or a dementoid garnet.

Uralian Chrysolite - dementoid garnet.
