Samples
I realized that, despite being a fiber arts table, I don’t really talk about knitting and weaving in the Renaissance era - and I think that’s mostly because I don’t have any samples: no samples equals no discussion starters. Don’t get me wrong, the various natural hand-dyed yarn DEFINITELY sparks conversation (and about one in every three of those conversations start with: are these for sale?) but we talk mostly of natural dyeing and spinning. But I feel like we neglect knitting and weaving (don’t think I’m ignoring crochet, but crochet wasn’t really a thing until the 1800′s and we represent the 1600′s so its technically not period, sorry crocheters!).
So now I’m going to knit a couple of swatches, showing different stitches and then maybe create some sort of rudimentary loom to make a few weaving swatches. I still might include a swatch of crochet with a tag about it being “future fabric” or something. I don’t know. Anyone want to weigh in?
