Mmmm I work tomorrow but Nico is making me sad again.
The shapers make me sad.
Like imagine you're a wizard, or at least you're spirit hearing. And you're young. You have a higher chance of being turned into a predator of spirits as a young wizard then an older one.
Now imagine you have a great relationship with the spirits, you understand their world, you connect with them naturally. Now imagine you're their biggest threat and they will never have a conversation with you without extreme deep rooted fear ever again.
The two populations of wizards who have such a kind community and understanding with the spirit world are the spiritualist and the shapers. And spiritualist don't really deal with demons.
Shapers are like the older sibling to the Spirit Court, they take the blows so the younger doesn't have too.
That deep trust they have with the spirits by being shapers. And their children go missing so frequently because of their proximity to the Mountain that they have laws for how they treat loss.
And Nico is one of those taken from the Shaper mountain and turned. She lost all her culture, and her connection to the spirits as a wizard.
And she can only practice wizardry by terrifying spirits into doing her bidding (bad) or enslaving her own soul just to keep sense of herself (good).
She makes me sad, she deserves soup
