yeah, same, it's like, the people who hate on Yoko and claim she broke up the band are just jumping on the usual, hatred toward women bandwagon. like, if you know anything about the Beatles, you know that there was a ton of shit hitting the fan long before Yoko even came on the scene and really it was all Paul and John that caused their own split. even like Ringo left before the official split and that had nothing to do with Yoko, tbh
The whole ‘Yoko split up the band’ is a terrible myth that has gone like way out of control and the entire world believes it was her fault which really sucks tbh. Like you said, it was many things and it had started before Yoko.
yes! I couldn't remember if Elementary's Sherlock had talked about it at all, but I totally prefer Elementary to BBC Sherlock
Tumblr user lesserjoke wrote about Elementary’s Sherlock and his attitudes toward language in this post. I appreciate the fact that Elementary’s Sherlock addresses the fact that language evolves (unlike the prescriptivist BBC Sherlock that polices the use of was/were and hanged/hung). It’s definitely one of the things that drew me to like Elementary more.
totally agree, Sherlock Holmes would have been a descriptivist. that annoyed me too, in BBC's Sherlock. it would have been really cool to hear him discuss some linguistics, and I don't think he ever did. just more reasons to not like that show, I guess.
Yeah! Glad to know someone agrees with me. I've come to enjoy Elementary more now, and there was a bit in which Elementary Sherlock noted how language changes.
hi sorry to butt in but it actually is pronounced má.dre --- the rule in spanish is that when a word ends in a vowel (or /n/ or /s/) (and doesn't already have a written accent/tilde) it is called llana and is accented on the penultimate syllable of the word. the ultimate (last) syllable in 'madre' is [dre] so [ma] is penultimate, making it the accented syllable!
i'm so confused i mean i went to google translate and it pronounced exactly the way i pronounce it??///???//,,
lol I would get reprimanded if I tried to do stuff in pen in high school
Really?
idk, maybe i’m just weirded out because i was taught that pencil was a kid thing so it seems so… harsh to me to force people that old to write in it like they’re going to make mistakes and need to erase stuff all the time.
I think the reasoning behind us using pen is that all exam board papers are expected to be done in blue or black ballpoint pen, and anything not is voided and classed as a fail. So they just start us off early.
okay, it did lead to a string of eleven year olds with ridiculous, fancy, far too expensive pens running around for a month before they all lost them all and bought like 10p biros but hey. And people got into trouble a lot for unapproved ink colours (aka purple gel pens). Any teacher that let you get away with weird ink was instantly loved.
