Got high last night and watched 2 movies back to back with some friends. I told them we were going to watch Project Hail Mary but instead I put on the Hong Kong horror film "The Boxers Omen" which is about a guy who's brother was hospitalized by a rival boxer from thailand, he swears revenge for his brother but during his trip in Thailand some Buddhist monks tell him that he's the reincarnated twin of their half dead Abbot who was attacked by evil sorcerers because he killed their pet bat, and the main character has to help the Abbot reach immortality or else both of them will die because their souls are linked. That's the setup, I won't spoil the rest because it's a great film, if you love body horror and the supernatural you'll love the movie, my friends and I loved it.
Anyways immediately after a piss break we watched Project Hail Mary, I won't describe the plot because y'all probably already know. It was pretty good, probably one of the better films that has come out in recent memory even though it's about a sad white boy. We noticed at one point that there were some people with hammer and sickles on their uniform, and every non American on the project is either Russian, Chinese, or German, leading us to believe that the movie takes place in a world where the USSR won the Cold war or some similar situation. It would make sense as to why humanity is actually united in stopping the sun from dimming if they were all socialist; it reminds me a bit of the old DDR film "Der schweigende Stern" (The Silent Star) which I watched in my highschool German class. Both films have the nations of the world uniting to investigate some issue happening in space, and the Silent Star was a big part of what swayed me towards socialism with how optimistic it's view on humanity was.
