Her heart almost stopped when the transmission cut out. Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck. Lilith tried desperately to make it come back on, to do something, anything.

"James? James?!" she shouted at pretty much nothing.

"DAD?!"

She didn't even realize she'd said it. Before she could even stop to think about the word that had come out of her mouth, she got up and ran across the ship. She had to find-

"PERRY!"

Lilith skidded to a stop, slamming into a door frame. "Perry, something's wrong. I was on the phone with James and-and then he hung up, and now I can't reach him! Something's wrong!!"

"Par," Aoife sighed, putting her new uniform down on the table. "You know how I feel about the Federation. They didn't judge me because of something I couldn't control. I don't feel like an outsider."

She didn't think enlisting would hurt Par this much, but maybe she should have seen it coming. She knew Par wasn't particularly... happy... with the Federation.
