Hey hon, I was reading through your FAQ's, and thought I'd explain "Lady Loki" to you. Comic-Verse Loki is canonly gender-fluid and frequently changes form (and I really do mean frequently!). The term Lady Loki does not necessarily refer to the arc with Sif, as it is simply the name fans have dubbed Loki when she is in female form. Hope this clarifies. <3
I thank you for your thoughtfulness and will be adding this to the general query. The FAQ was due for an update on several points and I will be sure to include this as one of them. We can absolutely discuss this further privately, relating specifically to my writing/characterization, if you’d like, but I wanted to clarify as well.
I read AoA and I and am at least somewhat familiar with the other titles that the current Comic-Verse incarnation of Loki appears in. I’ve often reached out to people more knowledgeable than I, especially on the topic of “Lady Loki,” in order to make sure I have my facts straight and have done so here as well. When the FAQ was put together over a year ago, this version of Loki was not the version that people were referring to, it was Sif-Loki. It was what people, in my inbox and among my readership, seemed to be most familiar with. Most of them had not read the arc or were only familiar to the point that they knew Loki was a woman at some point but were fuzzy the details–which is totally fine! That’s how new fans are made, by seeking out something they want to know more about or being attracted to an artist’s rendering of a character or whatever really catches their eye. But they consistently referred to that particular character design or made indication that they didn’t know any other more current Comic-Verse version of the character/concept or were only familiar with MCU Loki. Additionally, while I am in no way an expert on Norse mythology, they were not familiar with the fact that Myth-Loki spent any time as a woman or was a shape-shifter, either. The consistent references to Lady Loki made me extremely uncomfortable in relation to shipping.
The current Comic-Verse Loki hadn’t quite exploded in popularity yet. It seemed that after the Loki Turns into a Rainbow Unicorn book came out was when references to “Lady Loki” in particular and references to just Loki, existing as a woman in general/being a shape-shifter, became more prevalent in my inbox. The out of context panels circulating around here of just Loki as a unicorn made people laugh and it made people curious and made them seek out the newer comics in some form to find out what the heck was going on.
I like the current story/incarnation of Loki. I like genderfluid Loki. I like canonically shape-shifting, mask-wearing, Trickster Loki. I like Loki’s genderfuliditiy and shape-shifting in relation to the concept of “I can turn into anything as long as it’s myself.” But that’s just Loki. That is not “Lady Loki,” at the very least in relation to the messages that I was receiving. As far as I’ve seen, at least on my dashboard, people are not referring to genderfluid, shape-shifting Loki as “Lady Loki” when Loki appears as a woman. It’s still just “Loki.” I have seen one or two refer to the character as “Was Nerdki” in reference to the nickname that the most recent Loki has been given widely by readers. I have only seen the term “Lady Loki” used to refer to Sif-Loki.
Genderfluid Loki is a very recent concept. When Loki was actually Lady Loki, he still referred to himself/identified as a man. The body he was in was just a thing he was inhabiting and using as he pleased. Again, there are people far more well-versed than I who can talk about the overall character as well as previously-misogynist, older versions of Comic-Verse Loki at length.
