Soooo I was thinking.....
You know the saying BASKIN ROBINS ALWAYS FINDS OUT ?
Well I’m guessing in this scenario Mary is already dead because obviously she wouldn’t have let him make a mistake like this but... Neil doesn’t know. Neil doesn’t get references because he doesn’t talk to people enough to pay attention to what they are saying.
So he applies to BR.
He gets accepted because on the surface they see that NEIL JOSTEN hasn’t committed any crimes. But...
BASKIN ROBINS ALWAYS FINDS OUT!
They dig in deeper and see that after a few years there is no trace of a NEIL JOSTEN. So they get suspicious and (I don’t know how ‘they always find out’ but for ‘plot’ ) they hired a DETECTIVE ANDREW J. MINYARD!
Andrew goes and blah blah blah
He becomes a frequent customer there because ofcource he does there’s icecream ! Right there! Perfect excuse to scope out this ‘Neil Josten’ guy right? Totally job related and if his boss can’t see it well then FUCK THEM!
Plus this guy is good looking right?
So Andrew, like always, manages to make Neil agree to the truth games
And so Neil finds out this dude who’s been asking all sorts of questions WHICH HE ACTUALLY ANSWERED SOMEWHAT HONESTLY Is a FREAKING COP!
And so he gets that deer caught in headlights look on his face and andrews like ‘oh no he’s gonna run’ so he goes “don’t run rabbit blah blah I’m going to keep your secrets cuz blah blah and here’s some kinda promise that I’ll keep you safe blah blah but Baskin Robins always finds out”
And Neil thinks he finally gets what that means and what’s going on and connects the dots that BR hired Andrew to look into him. And so he quits because although Andrew already promised not to tell he won’t risk BR hireing more detectives.
And somehow Andrew helps Neil become a ‘more convincing person’/maybe makes him real or something.
And I don’t know what else to say because this is what I was thinking of during my shower like 13 hours ago when I was getting ready for school but I am by no mean anything remotely close to a writer so yeahhhhh this is pretty shit but I couldn’t get it out of my head so I just wrote it down and shared. Hopefully someone hasn’t done something like this tho cuz I really did come up with this but If it is already a thing please tell me I want to read something that makes more sense then this. Or if someone gets inspired please tell me I wanna read it :D that’s is thanks and sorry!
