There is a growing understanding among development groups that empowering women also means working with men and boys to change social attitudes — but these programs still face some resistance. Devex spoke to gender experts to find out more.

Wow, it’s been so long since I’ve posted any art on here, but I think these two are a good way to start up again. For this Valentine’s Day I decided to draw one of my own character couples from a book I’ve been writing (that I will be publishing this year!). This is based off of a scene where Dev (left) and Alex (right) don disguises to infiltrate a secret lab. Honestly I just wanted an excuse to draw them holding hands.
Happy Valentine’s Day! <3

Quite pleased with the people behind Pieces today. Submitted a ticket with a screen recording. Ten minutes later they look at it, realise it's complicated, and invite me to book a call with the CTO. I'm impressed.
👉 https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87804131712 Join us for the "Building Great Software Enablers" Webinar! 💡 We invite you to an engaging session on how focusing on better Developer Experience (DevEx) empowers developers to concentrate on what truly matters— building great software. 💡 Hosted by Anita Zbieg, featuring industry leaders Ben Darfler (Director of Engineering at Honeycomb.io) and Jon Kern (Agile Manifesto Co-author), this session will provide invaluable insights into how investing in a better DevEx can enhance productivity and collaboration. 👉 What to Expect: We'll explore DevEx metrics and practical use cases while discussing how developers navigate their day-to-day work in terms of flow state, cognitive load, and feedback loops. We'll chat how these elements tie into the tech stack developers use, the processes they follow, and the ways they collaborate. 👉 Who Should Attend: This webinar is perfect for tech professionals in Engineering and Delivery roles looking to stay competitive. 👉 When: 11 Sept 2024, 10:00 EDT | 16:00 CEST 👉 Where: #1 Streaming live on LinkedIn #2 Zoom (https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87804131712). 🌟 Don't miss this opportunity to dive deep into the future of DevEx! 🌟 We kindly inform you that the event will be recorded. 🌟 We hope to see you there!

Within the next three years, four out of five software engineering organizations will leverage platform teams to provide reusable services and tools for application delivery.
Start with internal developer portals (IDPs). Aim your early platform-building efforts at IDPs, since they are the most mature and well-understood species of platform. Your experiences will be extensible to other platforms in the future.
Embed security into platforms. Platforms must embed security into user workflows. Security teams need to “shift left,” embedding security controls into the production workflow as early as possible. Platform engineers should incorporate comprehensive, automated security and compliance checks as part of their test suites.
Don’t expect to buy a turnkey platform. Though some vendors may claim otherwise, any commercially available tool is unlikely to provide the entirety of the platform you need. A substantial amount of time and effort will be required to customize a platform to your needs.
Developer Productivity Drives Business Success
Not only can internal developer platforms improve developer experience, but they also have measurable benefits for the businesses that invest in them.

When building your case for an IDP to the business, you need to frame your argument in terms the business will understand and care about
Time to Market is one of the most important metrics to use when framing up your business case
When talking about operational efficiency, an IDP can bring, tailor the message to the outcomes the business needs now
Organizations that don’t have an IDP need one full-time equivalent in charge of operations per every 5-7 person development team.
Measuring the impact of your platform is critical to proving the investment was worthwhile. Measuring market share, net promotor score, and onboarding time are all great places to start.
