Devil's Slide - California - USA (by Christopher Michel)
devil's slide, california
8/14/17
So remember how I said that there was an even steeper sand dune (ok, cliff) that my dad used to slide down when he 8 years old? Well, here it is: the Devil’s Slide, or Log Slide, on the giant sand cliffs of Lake Superior in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, just west of Grand Marais. This is where the loggers would slide giant logs and trees down the cliff into Lake Superior, where they would be floated to Grand Marais and then loaded onto ships. I remember my my dad bringing up here when I was 9 and telling me that him and his sister used to slide down here, and then it would take all day to get back up. IT IS JUST AS STEEP AS I REMEMBER. I don’t know if these pictures do it justice either, but it is almost straight down. I slid for about 100 feet (which was really fun), and there were some other people who had slid all the way down to Lake Superior, but I knew it would literally take a couple of hours to get back up so I decided to only do a little bit of it.
