Ben 10 (Original Series) - Model Pack Image by Poe Tan + Analysis (Max Prototype?)
This image is very interesting. Let’s start with the elephant in the room: Max’s design.
The first image comes from the Comic-Con 06 art book.
The Max model used in the middle has the facial scruff dummied out, but he seems to have a bit of hair on his arms now.
Compared to the final, while largely the same, has some notable differences. The face has been redone from Dave’s original version, the shirt has less detail (such as the buttons, and the ends of the sleeves), and the flower pattern is somewhat different. Other notable things about this include the fact that it’s using a background from “Washington B.C.”, same episode from the Test Shots. However, in the test shots, Max is using his final design. Perhaps he was the first Tennyson to be finalized in the design process.
With this, we can create something of a timeline of when the Tennysons were finalized in terms of design. 1. All three enter the design process at roughly the same time. 2. Max gets finalized first, as evident by the test shots. 3. Ben gets finalized second, as evident by a small height chart that seems to use his proper design. 4. On that height chart, Gwen is using her final design, but her shirt is red and yellow. So she was finalized last.
