Here’s my Charr ranger, Narcissi! Quite new to the game, sometimes I don’t even know half of what the NPCs are talking about lol but I’m having lotsa fun so far.
I’m planning to change her name when I get an identity repair kit soon though. ‘Til then, she has a necromancer to hunt down.
Currently looking for more people in the gw2 community to play with! Please inbox me if you'd like to play together! I'm currently in love with my asura thief (btw I only really play ashrams). I love running dungeons, am willing to try/learn PvP, like to hunt world bosses, and can enjoy map completion if goofing around on skype is involved. Message me here or kik me @ onthecanvas if you'd like my Skype or gw2 add! (:
Complaints about servers- their populations, their guilds, even just the 'feel' of them- are pretty common when it comes to MMOs, and Guild Wars was absolutely no exception. Coming from the tiny server of Devona's Rest, where there was rarely a day where you didn't hear people in WvW lamenting server imbalances, I'll admit I was excited to hear about the megaserver update a month or two ago.
Man, was I wrong.
It seemed okay at first. There were actually people in areas like Mount Maelstrom and Frostgorge Sound. (Before you tell me 'they're always busy,' this was Devona's Rest in the middle of off-peak. I never saw anyone.) But here's the thing- when I played in a tiny server, everyone learned to survive off each-other. Melodramatic, I know, but that's the best way to put it. The first time I ever took down a Champion was when I was level 30 and one other player helped me, and we spent ten minutes pulling the guy around while the other player healed themselves. Some big event would be going on in an area and you'd send out a message, and you'd get maybe three people to help, not 20. But through teamwork, Devona's Rest still got things done. You say a player downed and trying to take down three skelks and you'd go over and help. We even learned to coordinate while fighting Scarlet's Knights- players who'd been trying for hours would let newcomers know the timing for dodging attacks or certain techniques that worked better. It was fun because there was a challenge.
Now? The big events have so many people I have to turn my graphics down to avoid lag, which I've never had to do for GW2 before. Players running through areas intentionally run right past you so whatever's chasing them agros onto you. Just yesterday, one of my alts was taken down by four cave trolls while two other players killed one troll just behind me, and then they ran right past without even offering a res. And that's not the first time that's happened either. There's still challenge, but in all the wrong ways. It's a challenge to find someone nice or vaguely helpful, and challenge not to rage at the unhelpful idiots running around. The reason I saw GW2 as so much better than WoW was because there was a sense of community. It's disappeared on me.
This, of course, is without even mentioning how busy things are. I used to enjoy exploring, because even though I'd occasionally get smashed by an event when I was alone, the map felt like it was mine. I'd explore entire areas without seeing a single other player sometimes, and I loved that. The first time I found Dierdre's Steps, that beautiful jumping puzzle in the top-right corner of Mount Maelstrom, I spent ten minutes doing the puzzle and another thirty sitting around, enjoying the view while I sold stuff in the BLTC. The entire time, no-one else was there, but when I went back last week, there were maybe 10 or 15 other players in there. The fuck, ArenaNet?
tldr; I hate the megaserver. People are jerks and the GW2 doesn't feel 'special' for me any more. If I wanted competitiveness and overcrowding, I'd go back to WoW.
on a related note it would be awesome to find some more friendly types to war some guilds with, so if you like impromptu dance parties then hit me up yo
Soooo. I just started playing Guild Wars 2 about a week ago. After testing all of the classes up through level 10 or so, I've decided to main a Norn Guardian, Kjarvalr Olafsen.
Anyways, one of the things I'm missing about WoW is how social the game was. I'm not saying that it doesn't exist here, I'm just saying that I haven't found it yet. If anybody knows of any great guilds or just wants to level together, my tag is Vigrid.6574. I'd love a few questing buddies. :D
