I had heard some mixed things about the finale, but I really enjoyed the ending to Burnout Syndrome. Honestly the entire show felt like a work of art.
I was not expecting Pheem to be one of the only characters to display real character growth. He worked through his codependency and showed a lot of maturity towards the end. Getting away from Koh, starting a new job, and even letting go of Jira. When he comforted Jira in this episode, the difference from ep 1 was palpable.
Right at the beginning of the episode, when Koh is staring at all the paintings Jira made for him, you can just see it in his eyes that he can truly feel the difference between human made paintings, and AI art. Whether he will admit that fact is another matter.
Koh keeps all the paintings Jira made for him on display, but not the AI replica. If he could copy Jira's art style and create any number of similar paintings, why didn't he? Because whether or not he is able to admit it, he understands that there is no meaning in art without a soul. Whether he sees value in art as a whole is irrelevant, but the fact that he sees value in Jira is everything.
And for that reason, in the end, Jira realizes there is nobody who will value his art as much as Koh. He tests this theory by charging a ridiculously high price which Koh is more than happy to pay, and honestly, Jira's reaction to it is everything.
And Jira. He's just tired of trying to convince the world his life has meaning...and honestly I get it. He was literally pimping himself out to make money before he met Koh, so I'm not sure I would want to go back to that if I was him either.
I thought I wanted nobody to end up together because I didn't know how they would pull it off, but they did.
