In World's Finest #142, Composite Superman shows up for the first time. He says he wants to work with Batman and Superman but really just wants to show how much better he is and get them out of the way. Eventually he threatens Bruce and Clark not to put their costumes on anymore or he will harm people. Which leads to Bruce and Clark being distraught, but luckily Dick is there to kick their butts into action:

They work on the case from the cave, with Clark playing 'human radar', which just means he sits around silently following Composite Superman everywhere with his super vision
